Innovative Social Media Campaign Strengthens Community-Police Collaboration |
The Burleson Police Department has transformed social media into a dynamic crime-fighting tool with its inventive "Bad Guy Bingo" initiative.
Recently, officers unveiled a bingo-style card featuring photos of individuals with outstanding warrants, encouraging residents to mark off faces as they recognized them online or in their neighborhoods.
This engaging approach, launched during the city's annual Independence Day Parade on July 4, 2025, quickly gained traction within the community.
As the bingo posts garnered widespread attention, tips began pouring in.
Within 48 hours, detectives successfully apprehended six of the nine featured suspects, wanted for offenses ranging from theft to drug-related crimes.
Citizens utilized direct messages and the department's anonymous tip line to report sightings, enabling officers to swiftly and safely make arrests.
Police leadership commended the public's enthusiasm, noting that the game format encouraged neighbors to look out for one another without feeling like they were informing on friends or family.
The department plans to retire the current card—securing any remaining names—and launch a fresh lineup next month to maintain momentum.
Beyond the arrests, "Bad Guy Bingo" has bolstered community-police relations by showcasing a lighter side of law enforcement and demonstrating how teamwork can enhance public safety.
Many residents expressed that the campaign made them feel engaged and empowered, turning crime-watching into a shared, neighborly activity.
In addition to this initiative, the Burleson community has been actively participating in various local events.
The 21st Annual Independence Day Parade, organized by the Burleson Lions Club, drew large crowds, celebrating the city's patriotic spirit.
Upcoming events include the BTX Lucky Duck Derby on July 12 and the BRiCk Boat-nanza on July 19, both hosted at the Burleson Recreation Center.
These events continue to foster a strong sense of community and collaboration between residents and local authorities. |
